Jeffery Safari Magazine Rifle .280 Nitro Express Bury St. London Mauser No.1

This classic Jeffery Safari Rifle bears the Bury Street address indicating manufacture between 1914 and 1927, seems to be in original, unaltered condition. It features a 26 barrel with bead front sight protected by a detachable hood, an island express sight with leaves for 1, 2, 3, 4 & 500 yards (all with platinum center lines) and checkered walnut stock with horn tip and grip cap, hook & eye sling swivels and checkered steel butt plate with pull-through trap. All serial numbers match (47899) and 27 is stamped in the barrel channel of the stock (perhaps the year of manufacture). The .280 Jeffery was also known as the .280 Jeffery Rimless Nitro Express and the .33/280 Jeffery. It was introduced in 1913 and fires a 140 gr projectile at 3000 fps (hence the express moniker). It retains about 60% blue with most of the loss on the bottom metal witch is mostly gray-brown patina while the bore grades at Excellent with only the slightest frosting in the grooves which cant be detected without a bore scope (we used a Hawkeye) and the stock is completely sound with very thinly scattered light to moderate handling marks. The cocking piece has some marks that may have come from rust there in the past. In any case; it is a beautiful example of an early 20th century safari rifle produced by one of the most prestigious London gun makers. Quite a rifle.
