Remington 1863 ZOUAVE U.S. Contract Civil War 58 Cal Rifle Excellent Cond.

Actually called the Harpers Ferry Pattern by the U.S. government, it is a mystery as to how they came to be called Zouave and a further mystery as to why, being one of the best designed and highest quality arms of the day, there are there no records of them having been issued. It features a 33Ē three groove barrel with bayonet lug on the right side, 3 leaf rear sight, brass furniture including patch box, tulip head ram rod, walnut stock and sling swivels. The barrel is a pleasant blend of original blue and dark brown patina while the bore is perfect Ė virtually new (we used a Hawkeye bore scope) and the stock is completely sound with thinly scattered light handling marks. The hammer face, nipple and bolster show zero evidence of having been fired which confirms what the barrel condition tells us: it hasnít been fired in the 157 years itís graced the planet. The lock plate retains about 95% vibrant case color and the action works perfectly. A really terrific example of one of the best, and most mysterious arms of the War of Northern Aggression.
