Winchester 1886 38-56 WCF Antique Made 1897

This fine old gentleman was made in 1897 (SN 111953) and according to West in his definitive WINCHESTER FOR OVER A CENTURY is in its original factory configuration featuring a 26 round barrel with 22B sporting rear sight and 21 sporting front sight, 9-3/8 forend, split top checkered panel on hammer with double arched border on bottom and walnut stocks with crescent butt plate with 1-9/16 heel. All metal except the magazine, bolt and forend cap is a nicely blended mix of brown and gray patina with scattered rust spotting while the magazine and forend cap are original blue with some fading, scratches and scattered rust spots and the bolt is a strong 98% original blue and it appears that it is a later replacement. The bore is evenly pitted with very weak rifling remaining and the stocks are sound with old scattered handling marks and a short crack where the right wrist meets the frame. The action works perfectly and locks up tightly. We would consider this for a top-flight bore lining or perhaps that and a top-flight restoration. After all; over the last 122 years it hurled a lot of lead and it would probably like to do it some more.
