Rare Diana Model 58 Luft-Gewehr Air Rifle 22 Cal Vintage Under Lever - Second Variant – Pre War

Among those who appreciate the fine workmanship synonymous with MAYER & GRAMMELSPACHER GmbH & CO. KG (DIANAWERK) the model 58 is an icon. This one is a second pattern which features the cocking knob at the rear of the receiver which isn’t encountered that often and another interesting facet is that there’s no model number marking under the Diana logo and the only other marking is “MADE IN GERMANY” on the bottom of the barrel. The model 58/2 features a 20” barrel with tappet breech, adjustable sights, underlever, Cocking knob and walnut stock with finger groove forend, checkered grip and steel butt plate. According to Blue Book it was $70 in Stoeger´s 1937 catalog, when the Winchester Model 12 shotgun was just $42.50! It retains about 90% original blue with some fading to brown patina here and there and some hard rust spots mostly on the barrel between the muzzle and the end of the lever while the bore perfect, really perfect – we used a Hawkeye bore scope and found what appears to be a new bore – 100% blue is present and a complete lack of lead or any evidence of having been fired. The stock is completely sound with scattered light to moderate handling marks. A scarce air rifle in remarkable condition ready to be a gem in any advanced collection.
