Smith & Wesson M 36 Chiefs Special Nickle 38 1973

Arguably the most iconic of the 38 Spl snubbies, the Chiefs Special was the piece for plain clothes law enforcement. Consequently; most of the nickel ones you see today show the wear and abuse of having been carried and used extensively. This one was made in 1973 (SN J120687) but somehow got caught in a time warp and aside from having it’s grips changed somewhere along the line, it’s in like new condition retaining better than 99% original nickel with no flaws but for a very thin cylinder line. There’s an “N” stamped on the left side of the grip frame, rear of cylinder and bottom of the barrel, the assembly number on the frame matches that on the crane and the frame serial number is reflected on the rear of the extractor. The bore is perfect and there’s very little evidence of it having been fired. I would guess a cylinder full or two at the most and there’s no wear on the extractor rod. Function is perfect and lock-up is vault-like. A super condition Chiefs Special that will gleam like a jewel in any advanced collection.
