Springfield Armory M1A Commercial M14 308 Win Rifle

Many feel that the M14 was to full power service rifles what the P51 Mustang was to prop driven fighters – the pinnacle of its phylum. Made when the services were willing to spend enough money to train true riflemen, it is an elegantly lethal weapon designed to deliver very accurate aimed fire over considerable distance. Chambered for the 308 Winchester, Springfield Armory’s M1A is the civilian legal expression of this incredible arm and aside from not being selective fire, it is exactly as the military version is and incorporates many GI components. It is very hard to find any evidence of it having been fired and it may not have been and we aren’t claiming that, though we can say that it is in like new condition retaining better than 98% phosphate finish with the only loss being slight action thinning on the receiver while the chrome lined bore is absolutely perfect and the GI stock is completely sound with almost no handling marks and a little finish loss on the bottom of the forend. It is a standard rifle configuration but must have been made when they had a shortage of standard barrels and it was given an air gauged “NM” marked barrel that they usually reserved for their top-flight competition models. A rifle that will handsomely reward the rifleman that knows how to shoot. And, if you don’t like the fighter plane analogy try this one: The M1A is to full power service rifles what the Winchester model 70 is to hunters – The Rifleman’s Rifle.
