Smith & Wesson US ARMY Model 1917 S&W 45 ACP 90% +

This S&W US ARMY Model 1917 is one of the best we’ve ever seen. It bears the flaming bomb at on the left of the frame along with an eagle head over “S9” at the rear guard root, an eagle head over “S26” in the crane cut, an eagle head over “S24” on the rear of the cylinder. The serial number on the butt is also on the rear of the cylinder and bottom of the barrel in the flat to the rear of the ejector rod lug along with an eagle head while in front of the lug is “UNITED STATES PROPERTY”. The assembly numbers in the crane cut and on the crane match. The bottom of the left grip panel is marked “R.A-D” which probably means it went through post war inspection but, obviously, no refurbishment was done as none was necessary. It retains better than 90% original blue with some typical holster wear and a thin cylinder line while the bore is perfect and the grips are completely sound with a few small dings along the edge of the butt. The action works perfectly and lock-up is as tight as a bank vault (zero lateral and zero end play). Indications are that this pistol has been shot very little in its century long life. These extraordinary pistols are getting very hard to find in this condition (especially this mechanical condition) and it won’t be getting any easier in the future – in fact; it’s hard for this writer to let this go to auction (but not so hard for this writer’s wife). An advanced research project that may yield a stunning revelation in the end. If you have questions please email us at This will be listed for auction on Gun Broker the evening of July 22nd.
