Smith & Wesson 32 S&W Model 1-1/2 Single

When I first inspected this little jewel I thought it was un-fired and it took me some time to find any evidence that it had, indeed, been fired Ė though I canít imagine that more than a cylinder full was discharged through it. It bears the serial number 5383 on the butt which is duplicated on the cylinder, latch and inside of the right grip panel (the barrel is not numbered). The grip panels are without the S&W monogram which is correct for this SN. Both Flayderman and Supica/Nahas note that the strain screw on the front strap appeared at about SN 6500 but this little gem proves it was there over a thousand units before that number. The 3-1/2Ē barrel bears the patent dates shown in the photos. Itís in extraordinary condition retaining 99% finish with most of the loss from a spiral cylinder line imparted by failing to hold the latch open while disassembling or reassembling. (Please note that the brown haze around the latch is ancient dried preservative.) The chambers are perfect while the bore has some scattered patches of light pitting totaling about 30% with the balance being perfect. The grips are perfect. The action works as it should (OK, perfectly) and frame lock-up is, well, perfect (zero movement). Containing all that perfection is a very nice mahogany case with red felt lining. A super condition 1-1/2 single action center fire Smith destined to be the stand-out in any advanced collection.
