Chicago The Protector Antique Palm Pistol

This is one of the fascinating The Protector palm pistols manufactured by the Chicago Arms Co (Ames Sword Co.) who produced about 12,800 of them. It features seven chambers in a rotating star that aligned each chamber with a turn the barrel when the palm lever is squeezed. This example is somewhat restored after being rusty enough to have some scattered pitting and it lost its original hard rubber side plates and palm pad as well as some other parts, The side plates have been replaced plastic sheet cut to fit and retained by the original disc on one side and a replacement disc on the other, the hammer, hammer spring and hammer cocking/firing bar (with its spring) are present and work and the star is present as well but the components for advancing the star are not present. The serial number on the frame (2719) matches that on the star but not on the cover plate (3571). Both springs on the cover plate are present. Internally there’s about 80% blue present and no pitting. A novel firearm that probably surprised more than one person.
