Colt New Line 1st Model 32 Revolver 2-1/4” Nickel

This is one of the Colt New Line, 1st model revolvers which were made between 1873 and 1884. It features 32 RF chambers, 2-1/4” barrel, nickel plate, spur trigger and bird’s head grip with rosewood panels. It retains about 70% nickel plate over which is some ancient yellowed dried preservative, some micro pitting on the areas free of nickel and some battering on the edges of two of the cylinder flutes. The hammer holds solidly at full cock but there seems to be no half cock and the cylinder is freewheeling as there seems to be a broken or absent bolt spring and the hand does not act upon it and the base pin turns with the cylinder (we weren’t able to get it out) and seems to be a replacement. From what we can see of the bore it looks pretty good with only slight surface rust and good, strong rifling. A neat old pocket pal that would get you out of a tight spot back in the day but now needs a helping hand himself.
