Colt Topless 22 Long Revolver 3-3/8” Made 1876

Colt’s engineers William Mason and Charles Richards designed this high-end pocket pistol introduced in 1871 (and went on to design the immortal 1873 SAA). This example was made in 1876 during the country-wide centennial celebrations and features a 2-3/8” barrel, brass frame, seven shot cylinder chambered for 22 Long and birds-head grip with varnished rosewood grips. The steel components are blended brown and gray patina with some signs of slight battering here and there and some vise marks on either side of the barrel while the frame is a pleasant patina with the side plate being slightly lighter in color and having some scratches. The grips are completely sound with scattered dings and bruises. The bore has two partial lines of rifling and evidence of having been reamed at some point in the distant past – there’s some lightly pitted areas and some smooth areas. The hammer holds strongly at full cock but there’s no half cock and the cylinder bolt locks and unlocks perfectly but the hand spring is absent or broken though the hand is just fine. An old fella that’s been around some in his near century and a half on the planet. If you have questions please email us at This will be listed for auction on Gun Broker the evening of July 1st.
