Whitneyville Armory CT 32 RF Model 2 Eli Whitney

Patented in 1871 and made in Eli Whitney's factory known as Whitneyville Armory it was cutting edge technology in its day featuring a 3-1/4 octagon barrel, solid brass frame, spur trigger, birds head grip and pushbutton base pin release. It retains about 35% original blue on the barrel while the cylinder has about 10% with the balance in both cases being silver-gray patina (the cylinder appears to have been lightly cleaned at some point in the distant past). The bore is about 50% light to moderate pitted with good, strong rifling and grades Antique Very Good. The hammer, hand and trigger work perfectly with the cylinder removed but the cylinder bolt does not drop when the hammer is cocked keeping the cylinder from turning when its in place. The serial numbers on the frame, barrel and cylinder match and the grips are sound with scattered light to moderate handling marks. There are some old vise marks on the ejector portion of the base pin. A really nice example of a good pal to have in your pocket back in the days of explosive change leading up to the 20th century.
