Winchester 1894 Rifle 38-55 Made 1899 Excellent

This impressive 1894 rifle in 38-55 was made in 1899 (SN 157296) and features a 26” barrel with correct front sight and correct 22H rear sight, split top checkered panel on hammer, 9-3/8” forend and crescent butt plate. Please see photos for markings. The barrel and magazine retain about 88% original blue with some fading to blended gray and brown patina near the carry point and scattered light scratches and oxidation spotting while the receiver retains about 78% original blue with scattered oxidation spotting, scratches and thinning to gray and brown patina. The lever keeps about 20% case color while the butt plate is mostly a silvery patina. The bore is 98% mirror smooth, bright and shiny with strong, sharp rifling and 2% scattered very light pitting (you need an illuminated magnifying bore scope to see it) – it grades at Excellent. The stocks are completely sound with scattered light to moderate handling marks and “A.C.” wood burned into the left butt sometime in antiquity (it looks like it was done by the camp fire with a handy piece iron or brass). The action works perfectly. A really fine example of an early 1894 rifle in a great chambering and with a bore in condition that’s almost impossible to find in Winchesters of this age.
