M1950 Morocco FN Mauser 30-06 3 Digit # Matching

This is one of the mysterious Moroccan 1950 police carbines made by FN and chambered in 30-06. For reasons only the Moroccans know they had FN make these with no crest or other identifier on them and they had only a very few made in both 308 and 30-06 calibers. This one is 30-06 as evidenced by “.30” on the receiver bridge and a radiused notch at the top rear of the receiver ring. The receiver, bolt and stock share the same serial number which is 784. Robert Ball in his definitive Mauser Military Rifles of the World devotes almost no ink to these rifles and other sources are hard to find. Needless to say; they’re scarce. It features a 17.5” barrel, sights graduated to an optimistic 1400 meters and sling swivels. It retains about 85% original blue with some generalized thinning and fading to brown patina with most of the loss on the bottom metal while the bore is smooth and shiny with strong, sharp rifling and just a slight hint of frosting in the grooves (grades at Excellent) and the stock is completely sound with scattered handling marks typical of a service rifle from this period and a brass rack number plate at the toe. There are tiny import marks on the barrel. A very nicely made, extremely handy and very hard to find 30-06 carbine for the advanced Mauser collector.
