Springfield 1899 Krag Carbine 30-40 US Excellent

This 1899 Krag carbine is one of the last made for the US Army and somehow escaped seeing hard service. It seems to be in original configuration but for a Lyman ivory bead blade front sight and two small drilled and tapped holes for a receiver sight on the left just in front of the bolt handle where they are filled with filler screws and a small piece of wood has been glued in place to conceal where the stock had been relieved for it (a very good job, we almost didnít notice it). It wears an original Harvey Wheeler 1917 sling and has sharp stock markings which are correctly dated for the receiver serial date (SN 342290 =1901). It retains about 85% original blue with most all the loss at the carry point while the bore is smooth and shiny with strong, sharp rifling and the stock is completely sound with very few handling marks for one of these arms. The brown material you see on the bright parts of the bolt and rear sight is dried preservative and comes off with a fingernail (solvent would be easier) and it is on the fore and aft of the receiver and it covers the other blued parts as well. The action works perfectly and the sling is supple with some cracking here and there. A decent old solider who missed being abused in the service and has been treated well since leaving it. For the last 70 or so years it has been silent while residing in the same collection for all those years. Bring him back into the light, he wants to go to the range with you.
