Winchester Model 50 Semi Auto 12 Ga Shotgun 1956

Having shot themselves in the foot by having turned down John Browning’s A5 shotgun, Winchester struggled to compete in the auto loader market and developed the model 50 to do so. The design uses a floating chamber like the Colt Ace and was developed by none other than “Carbine” Williams. With the typical high quality of manufacture that Winchester achieved before the accountants and MBA’s destroyed that culture in the 1960’s, it features a 28” barrel with Mod choke (fixed), 2-3/4” chamber, steel receiver, cross bolt safety, last shot hold-open and checkered walnut stocks with round logo composite checkered butt plate. It is in excellent condition retaining a strong 98% original blue while the bore is perfect mirror and the stocks are sound with scattered light to moderate handling marks and an stable 1” crack at the right front of the forend (really inconsequential). It was made in 1956 (SN 68393) and interestingly; there are an abundance of original spare barrels available for these guns at quite reasonable prices. A fast-handling, handsome and reliable auto-loader that although a really excellent design, couldn’t catch up to the A5.
