Winchester 1892 Trapper Carbine 25-20 WCF Made 1906

This Winchester 1892 was made in 1906 (SN 376028) and according to West is his definitive WINCHESTER FOR OVER A CENTURY it bears correct barrel and tang markings for the serial number. Its configuration is unusual and it may be a special order. It features an 18-11/16 octagon barrel, Beech combination front sight, 22H rear sight, slightly curved top and bottom of checkered panel on hammer, carbine butt plate with 12-3/4 LOP, 9-3/8 forend and no barrel bands. The magazine cap is secured correctly with a screw through to the barrel and the tongue of the magazine cap is snugly in a matching slot on the bottom flat of the barrel. Quite a handy little rig. Edges are softened from ancient cleaning and finish is mixed brown and gray patina with some remaining cold blue that was likewise done in the distant past. The bore is even, rusty pitting with perhaps enough rifling to impart a spin (but maybe not we would sleeve it). The stocks are sound with a nice old satin refinish over some years of wear and tear including stable cracks at the left and right of the wrist and a large chip there on the right. The bead is absent from the globe section of the Beech combination front sight. A nice old fella that has a story to tell and could keep on talking in the right hands.
