Colt New Service 38 WCF Revolver 38-40 Made 1905

This Colt New Service revolver was made in 1905 (SN 137954) and is chambered for the great 38-40 cartridge. It features a 5-1/2” barrel, flat latch, checkered walnut grips with silver medallions and a lanyard ring on the butt. It retains some blue in protected areas while otherwise it is blended brown and gray patina with scattered rust spotting here and there while the bore is 80% smooth and shiny with strong, sharp rifling and 20% scattered light pitting and the grips are sound with 114 years’ worth of wear and insults. The trigger seems to be a Colt replacement and the butt of the frame and grips have been filed down (see photo) as has the front sight (slightly). A nice old gent that has been around the block a few times but still functions as it should and locks-up at battery with only the slightest movement.
