Remington Rolling Block Rifle With Excellent Bore

At least 44 countries used the Remington Rolling Block rifle in a wide variety of calibers and this one bears no markings with which we can determine for whom it was made. The bore at the muzzle measures 0.4485 which could put it in the 43, 44, 45 and 11mm range of calibers and the rear sight and bayonet lug with a guide bar that has been shortened might suggest it is one of the Egyptian versions but without doing a chamber casting the caliber cant be determined (rim diameter is 0.6925, chamber mouth is 0.5230 and there is a shoulder). Other features are 35 barrel with ram rod present underneath, sights calibrated to 1000 (installed backwards on barrel), U marked barrel bands (no crowns) and faint tang markings. It has been cleaned to white with some scattered rust spotting and old light pitting while the bore is in fairly good shape with only thinly scattered light pitting and would come in at Antique Very Good to Antique Excellent though the rifling is not as sharp as it might be. The stocks are sound with the kinds of dings expected on these old war horses and a small chip at the left upper rear of the forend and a stable crack below it. The action seems to work perfectly. A nice old fella that could tell a story or two Ill bet maybe hell talk to you. If you have questions please email us at This will be listed for auction on Gun Broker the evening of January 14th.
