Savage No 4 Mk I* British Enfield 303 Rifle No Import Marks

The No.4 Mk1* was the finest bolt action battle rifle of WWII and perhaps of all time. This example was made by Savage and is marked “U.S. PROPERTY” on the receiver to get around America’s supposed neutrality early in the war. It has British export marks near the muzzle but no American import marks anywhere. It appears to be all original with matching number bolt while bands, bottom metal, magazine follower, sights and stocks all bear the square “S” marking of Savage. It retains about 80% phosphate finish with some discoloration on the receiver and generalized loss and fading to brown patina. The 2 groove bore is a perfect mirror – bright, smooth and shiny with strong, sharp rifling and the stocks are completely sound with typical scattered handling marks and a nasty gouge on the right lower forend between the bands. A really nice example of a great rifle with a bore that is like-new. If you have questions please email us at This will be listed for auction on Gun Broker the evening of December 10th.
