Savage 1942 No 4 Mk I* British Enfield 303 Rifle

The No.4 Mk1* was the finest bolt action battle rifle of WWII and perhaps all time. This example was made in 1942 by Savage and is marked “U.S. PROPERTY” on the receiver to get around America’s supposed neutrality early in the war. It appears to be all original with matching number bolt while bands, bottom metal and stocks all bear the square “S” marking of Savage and bolt handle, receiver and bolt head all bear the flaming bomb mark. It retains about 80% phosphate finish on the barreled action with most of the loss on the bolt handle and barrel end (from bayonet use) while the magazine is gray patina with scattered rust spotting. The 2 groove bore is a perfect mirror – bright and shiny with strong, sharp rifling and the stocks are completely sound with typical scattered handling marks. There are tiny import marks near the muzzle documenting its exit from serving the empire. A really nice example of a great rifle with a bore that is like-new.
