Lefever Nitro Special 12 Ga Shotgun 30 IC & F

The Lefever Nitro Special shotgun is one of the workhorse shotguns of the early to mid-20th century and brought down untold tons of game. A basic boxlock, it proved to be a strong, reliable, durable and good handling gun. This example features 30 barrels with IC and IM chokes and 2-3/4 chambers, automatic safety, checkered walnut stocks with Prince Albert grip. It retains about 80% blue with scattered scratches, rust spots and patches of loss while the bores are 95% mirror bright and shiny with a little thinly scattered micro pitting here and there and the forend is completely sound with scattered light handling marks (all serials match) and the butt is another matter. Although tight, it has cracks at both top and bottom tangs and a small chip at the lower left front and it seems to be rotated up in the front exposing the sides of the trigger plate and rising above the upper tang where it has been carved down on the right side so the top lever can clear it. Perhaps an ill-fitting replacement. It is 100% on-face and locks up tight as a tick (tested with the forend removed) with the top lever coming to rest well right of center. A nice old gent that, with the 30 barrels and sound bores and mechanics, could be made into a great many useful variations.
