Winchester Model 71 348 WCF Rifle Made 1956 New Unfired

When Winchester introduced the model 71 they called it the Golden Jubilee Action and heralded it as “a supreme achievement in lever action universal hunting rifles.” With robust strength, durability and accuracy it could deliver its 458 pill with lethal results on the biggest of North American game “from Alaska moose and Kodiak bears to Florida deer and panthers.” This example was made in 1956 (SN 43426) and according to West in his definitive WINCHESTER OF OVER A CENTURY it is in original condition featuring a 24” barrel with integral hooded ramp front sight and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight with 3C elevator, 2/3 magazine (4 shots), short tang, receiver drilled and tapped for receiver sight, cross ribbed hammer, walnut stocks with fluted comb and semi-beavertail forend, and checkered widow’s peak steel butt plate (see photos for markings). When I picked this rifle up its owner indicated that it might not have been fired but I took that with a grain of salt at the time. However, when I opened the action to inspect the condition indicators within, I found that the factory grease on the bolt face had never been disturbed nor was there any indication that a round had ever been fed though the action. We ran a patch thru the bore to clear the dust and using a Hawkeye bore scope, found a new, unfired bore. It retains a strong 99% original blue with a light scratch on the right side of the lever and slight action thinning on either side of the hammer while the bore is a perfect new bore and the stocks are completely sound with a handful of light handling marks along the toe line mostly nearer to the toe. A classically handsome rifle chambered for a very useful cartridge and in condition that’s getting almost impossible to find. No pun intended but you’ll probably never get a shot at another unfired Model 71. If you have questions please email us at This will be listed for Gun Broker the evening of October 8th.
