Winchester 92 Half Magazine 25-20 Carbine 1926

This Winchester model 92 was made in 1926 (SN 962308) and seems to have originally been a transition piece between West’s Late Variety 1st & 2nd Variations. The hammer has the correct curved top checkered panel and the forend wood is 9-3/8” long. In more recent times it was rebarreled with what seems to be a properly contoured high quality replacement of 20” length. What appears to be a Winchester 22G semi-buckhorn adjustable rear sight is mounted and the front is a Marble brass bead. It weighs in at 6 pounds, 8 ounces. Both wood and metal were skillfully refinished leaving the metal a uniform satin blue while the wood is a very nice rubbed oil satin finish. Only a few older flaws are seen beneath either refinish though excessive sanding and buffing were carefully avoided. It retains more than 98% blue with all the loss represented by small rust spotting on the horizontally grooved shotgun butt plate. The action seems to work perfectly and internally there are signs of only moderate wear at most and the bolt face is smooth and clean with no primer ring or pitting. The bore is perfect. A really nicely restored Winchester 92 chambered for the great 25-20 cartridge that will please your eye on the wall at home and drop that song dog or whistle pig in his tracks afield.
