Remington Smoot No 1 Revolver 30 RF 95% SN 138

This is one of the unusual Remington Smoot revolvers offered by Remington from 1873 to 1888. It features a 2-3/4” barrel with rib and blade front sight, unusual ejector rod (not stepped), spur trigger, case colored hammer and checkered hard rubber grips. It retains about 95% original nickel plate with a few small areas of oxidation on some of the leading edges of the cylinder and on either side of the forcing cone and there’s a faintly scratched “ags” in script with a line under them beneath which is “36” followed by an unknown symbol (see photo). It is so faint that we didn’t notice it until we were photographing it. Under the grips is “138” stamped in both the upper and lower frame near the butt. The hammer keeps about 92% case color. The bore is about 70% smooth and shiny with strong sharp rifling and 30% patchy rust with light pitting. The action works perfectly and the grips are completely sound with no cracks, chips or flatted points and a small glob of something that has dried near the left grip escutcheon which might be removable. The grip screw head retains its niter blue. It comes with a period leather flap holster in very good condition. A very nice example of a scarce pistol.
