Robert E Lee Commemorative Pistol US Historical Soc

Issued by the United States Historical Society, this is a replica of Colt model 1851 navy in .36 caliber with 7-1/2" octagonal barrel. The barrel loading lever, frame, cylinder and hammer are extensively decorated with gold plate over mirror polish blue while the grip frame is completely covered in gold plate. The one piece walnut grips have a Robert E. Lee bust medallion on the left side. It comes in the original walnut case with gray velvet lining and leather inset with gold leaf impress. It also includes a Robert E. Lee medallion, a silver plated colt patent eagle flask and in the two compartments are the presentation box key, a silver plated cap box and gold plated lead balls as well as a pair of cotton gloves for handling. It is one of 2500 issued in 1988 at a price of $2,100. This one is serial number 1997. It’s in excellent condition, actually mint but for a very thin and light cylinder line that’s not through the finish and only noticeable if you look for it. It is such high polish that photography was problematic – it looks better “in person” so to speak. The presentation case is completely sound with some light scratches and dings thinly scattered about while inside its perfect. A striking display piece that will only appreciate over the years.
