Browning Challenger 22 LR Pistol FN Belgium 1968

The Browning Challenger was designed by Bruce Browning, John M. Browning's grandson and first offered in 1962 as a more affordable alternative to the superb (and very expensive) Medalist and is essentially the same pistol but for a lighter barrel, eliminated dry fire feature and standard grips (without thumb rest). Fit, finish and even accuracy were basically the same. They quickly gained a reputation for having outstanding triggers and flawless functioning. This example was made in 1968 (SN 117199U8) and features a 6-3/4” barrel with ramped undercut and serrated blade front sight, fully adjustable rear sight, adjustable gold plated trigger, last shot hold-open, wraparound double bordered hand checkered walnut grips and 10 shot magazine. It retains a strong 98% original finish with a light scratch on the left side of the barrel and two small oxidation spots (one on the barrel to the right of the muzzle and one on the front top corner of the front sight base) while the bore is perfect and the grips are completely sound with only a handful of light handling marks. An elegant, beautifully made pistol that makes offerings from today’s manufactures look like junk.
