Browning Double Auto 12 Ga Shotgun Excellent 1955

Invented by Val Browning (J.M. Browning’s son) the Double Auto is a unique gun in many ways. It is a two shot automatic that it’s cult-like following say handles better than any double gun and any other auto – and they may be right! When the gun is fired the shell resting on the carrier is chambered so quickly you can’t see it and with the center of gravity resting right between your hands (thanks to no second barrel or clunky magazine tube) it’s superlative handling gives you that double every time. Changing barrels couldn’t be easier with the snap of a catch, tilt of the forend and off it comes (there are superb aftermarket barrels available from Hastings). This example was made in 1955 (SN C11838) and features a 28” barrel with 2-3/4” chamber and MOD choke (fixed), steel receiver, engraving and triple bordered checkered walnut stocks with Val Browning figurehead Double Automatic butt plate. It’s in unusually good condition as most of these guns were hunted hard because they are such effective game getters. This one seems to have spent the last 63 years mostly in the rack. It retains a strong 98% original blue with some tiny rust spots here and there and a thinned area on the top rear of the receiver while the bore is perfect and the stocks are sound with a short hairline crack on the top of the butt where it meets the receiver (it is stable and appears to be a grain check rather than a stress crack), only thinly scattered light handling marks and keeps about 95% original finish. A really nice example of the second generation of Browning genius. If you have questions please email us at This will be listed for auction on Gun Broker the evening of July 2nd.
