Smith & Wesson M 14 K-38 Target Masterpiece 38 Spl

The S&W Model 14 Target Masterpiece was THE 38 Special target pistol to have for NRA bullseye competition shot at 25 and 50 yards. In fact; I was issued a “full house” version at Marine Barracks, Naval Air Station Brunswick, ME in 1966 and used it along with a National Match 1911 and an H-S Supermatic to shoot in matches around New England. It was kinda cool for an 18 year old to be issued three top flight competition pistols along with all the other gear and told: “Don’t make any plans for your weekends.” Wish I could go back…. Well, anyway; this 14-4 version was made in 1978 (SN 1K4688) and features a 6” ribbed barrel, matte sight plane, fully adjustable rear sight, checkered case colored hammer, grooved case colored trigger and checkered walnut grips with silver medallions. The right grip panel shares serial numbers with the frame and it comes with its original factory box with all papers shown as well as a generic S&W hard case. It retains a strong 98% finish with very slight thinning on the ejector rod, some slight edge thinning and a thin cylinder line while the bore is perfectly mirror smooth and shiny with strong, sharp rifling, the hammer and trigger retain 98% color with slight action thinning and the grips are completely sound with no handling marks or flatted points. Lock-up is tight as a tick. The box top has one split corner and a large tape-lift on the top (see photos).
