Winchester Model 70 Featherweight 270 Win 1955 With Rare 3 Line Barrel Address – Perfect Bore

This Model 70 Featherweight 270 Win rifle was made in 1955 (SN 341358) which was nine years before the McNamara style of management killed the quality culture at Winchester and eventually the company itself. While metal components are unmodified the stock has a Pachmayr rubber butt plate and QD push-button sling swivels and has been shortened to a 12 LOP. The metal is in original factory configuration with correct markings on the 22” barrel - in fact, according to Rule in his definitive THE RIFLEMAN’S RIFLE this barrel bears the rare 3-line barrel address of which, at the time of the 2009 edition, there was only one known example. Rule notes that the marking was only used for a brief period in 1955. It has the correct Lyman 16A folding rear sight, matte finished receiver, three position wing safety and aluminum bottom metal. Mounted on the receiver is a Williams 5D aperture sight (no modifications were made to the receiver). It retains about 97% original metal finish with some edge thinning on the bottom metal and slight thinning on the bolt knob while the bore is smooth, bright and shiny with strong, sharp rifling (we used a Hawkeye bore scope and found the microscopic circumferential tool marks still evident on the rifling leads and no throat washing). The bolt serial number matches that of the receiver and its face has a faint shadowy primer ring with no pitting at all (we used a 3x magnifier to check). The stock is completely sound with scattered handling marks and some gouges the worst of which is in the middle of the left butt and the finish has departed on the checkered panels and around them as well as various places on the butt. Aside from the stock, this rifle is in uncommonly high condition and with the three line barrel address, ‘uncommon’ becomes quite an understatement.
