Winchester Model 70 Featherweight 243 Win 1961

This Model 70 Featherweight 243 Win rifle was made in 1961 (SN 510499) which was three years before the McNamara Fallacy style of management killed the quality culture at Winchester and eventually the company itself. With the exception of the rear sling swivel it is in original factory configuration with correct markings on the 22” barrel {West; WINCHESTER FOR OVER A CENTURY}, correct Lyman 16A folding rear sight, matte finished receiver, three position wing safety, aluminum bottom metal, checkered walnut Monte Carlo stock with sling swivels composite butt plate . Atop the receiver are Redfield base and 1” rings. It retains a strong 92% original metal finish with most of the loss from fading on the floor plate and thinning on the bolt knob while the bore is bright and shiny with strong, sharp rifling and the stock is completely sound with only a couple of handling marks (one is below the receiver ring on the right) and about 99% original finish remaining. The bolt serial number matches that of the receiver and its face smooth and shiny but for a shadowy primer ring with a smattering of micro pits in it (we had to use a 3x magnifier to see them). The rear sling swivel has been replaced with a QDC type. A great example of the kind of quality Winchester could produce before they started to listen to the MBA’s.
