Winchester Model 70 Featherweight 30-06 Rifle 1959 950

This Model 70 Featherweight 30-06 rifle was made in 1959 (SN 447796) which was five years before McNamaraian management practices (the McNamara Fallacy) killed the quality culture at Winchester and sealed the company’s fate. It is in original factory configuration with correct markings on the 22” barrel {West; WINCHESTER FOR OVER A CENTURY}, correct Lyman 16A folding rear sight, matte finished receiver, three position wing safety, aluminum bottom metal, checkered walnut Monte Carlo stock with sling swivels and Decelerator recoil pad (LOP 13-3/8” with the 1” thick pad) . Atop the receiver are Redfield base and 1” rings. It retains a strong 95% original metal finish with most of the loss from fading on the floor plate while the bore is bright, smooth and shiny with strong, sharp rifling and the stock is completely sound with only a couple of light handling marks and about 99% original finish remaining. The bolt face is clean and smooth without even a hint of a primer ring and the bolt serial number matches that of the receiver. A great example of the kind of quality American industry could produce before academia gave us the management principles that would destroy excellence in manufacturing.
