Winchester Model 70 257 Roberts Standard Rifle Made 1954 Factory Correct Excellent Bore 90% Fin

The fantastic 257 Roberts was offered by Winchester in the model 70 Standard Rifle from 1936 to 1959 accounting for only 2.52% of production with only 14,641 rifles being made {Rule; THE RIFLEMANíS RIFLE}. This example was made in 1954 (SN 307174) which was ten years before the poisonous management practices developed in the ivory towers of academia killed the quality culture at Winchester and sealed the companyís fate. It is in original factory configuration with correct markings on the 24Ē barrel, correct Lyman 16A folding rear sight, integral front sight base, matte finished receiver, three position wing safety, steel bottom metal, hinged floor plate, checkered walnut Monte Carlo stock with sling swivels and checkered steel butt plate {West; WINCHESTER FOR OVER A CENTURY}. The receiver and bolt serial numbers match. It retains a strong 90% original metal finish with almost all of the loss on the bottom metal and bolt knob while the bore is a perfect, smooth and shiny with strong, sharp rifling (we used a Hawkeye bore scope) and the stock is completely sound with thinly scattered light handling marks and about 98% original finish remaining. I feel the rifle is in its prime based mostly on the excellent condition of the bolt face (no primer ring erosion at all) and chamber throat (the bore scope showed only the slightest washing) which indicates an amount of use far below that which would even start to cause accuracy degradation. A great example of the quality product that could be made before the McNamara Fallacy permeated our management practices and itís in condition that will render superb service for another 64 years.
