Springfield Armory US M1 Garand Rifle 30-06 WWII

This rifle was made between December 1943 and March of 1944 according to according to Harrison in his definitive COLLECTING THE GARAND and at some later point in time had a replacement barrel marked “SA 6535448 6 63 Y23 PM” followed by an ordinance stamp installed and found its way to one of our allies (probably Greece) and then found its way back here thanks to ARI Ordinance – whew! It retains about 85% finish overall with most of the loss being on the op rod, clip release and floor plate of the trigger group housing where there are some patches of oxidation and a little pin-prick pitting while the barrel, receiver and other parts keep more like 95% of their finish and the barrel has tiny, lightly struck import marks on the right side. The bore has even, light to moderate pitting with good, strong rifling while the stock is sound with relatively few handling marks. The bolt is SA as is the trigger group housing, hammer, forged guard and op rod (the latter having the post war relief cut modification), MXR safety and the stock is a Winchester with a naked P on the face of the grip. A nice old fella that’s been on some travels in his life and would love to tell you about them over a brandy and cigar.
