Ithaca 4E Single Barrel Trap 12 Gauge Shotgun 1927

This Ithaca 4E was made in 1927 (SN 400939T) and features a 32” vent rib barrel (0.681” bore at the muzzle) with ivory mid and front beads, case colored and engraved frame, very nicely figured walnut stocks with fine checkering, beavertail forend with ebony inlay, monogram plate on the toe line (unengraved) and Ithaca ventilated recoil pad. LOP is 14-1/4” DAC is 1-5/8” and DOH is 2-1/8”. It retains about 85% blue with some slightly streaky fading to brown patina mostly on the rib (under the rib the barrel is brown but we’ve determined that it is dried preservative of some kind), scattered light scratches and tiny rust spotting while the bore is a perfect mirror, the frame retains about 82% case color and the stocks are completely sound with scattered light to moderate handling marks with some chips in the finish (see photos) and cracking in the finish at the forend tip. Lock-up is tight as a vault (tested with the forend removed) and 100% on-face while the lever comes to rest well to the right of center. All serial numbers match. A very nice example of the high quality of America’s work force and intelligent management in the past which, regrettably, are now nearly non-existent.
